Providence is calling an Orthopedic Technician (Full time/Day Shift) to Providence Medical Institute in West Hills, CA.

We are seeking an Orthopedic Technician who will be responsible for providing assistance to patients, providers and other members of the healthcare team. The duties involve specialized patient care tasks including casting, splinting, dressing changes, measurement and fitting of orthopedic braces and other devices and ambulatory aids and patient education. Additionally the technician will be required to complete routine patient care tasks so other caregivers can attend to other clinical and administrative functions. Performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the Providence Health & Services mission, philosophy and core values.
In this position you will:
Applies and removes casts using plaster, fiberglass or synthetic materials. This involves adjusting, removing, repairing, bi valving, wedging and widowing of casts.
Removes and changes dressing assessing the condition of wounds prior to the cast application.
Consults with provider for further orders when problems are identified.
Measures and fits patients for orthopedic braces, devices and ambulatory aids. Instructs patients regarding care and proper use. Assists in the application, maintenance and adjustment of skin or skeletal traction
Removes sutures, staples and pins (external fixators)
Fabricates and applies/removes splints and bandages
Instructs patient/family in the care of the cast, splint or brace as well as skin care. Reinforces the teaching of the medical information provided by the provider regarding the specific injury, treatment plan and anticipated results.
Orders and maintains equipment and manages orthopedic supplies.
Sterilizes and maintains functional condition of clinical instruments for procedures.
Interacts with other departments to obtain the resources needed to assist with patient care, ie. Medical records/radiology
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Completion of Orthopedic Technician Training Program.
At least one (1) year full-time work experience in a hospital, clinic or office setting, working directly in the treatment of orthopedic patients.
Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopedic conditions based on the understanding of anatomical structures and their relationship with one another.
Prepare and know the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used in orthopedic procedures.
Ability to apply, adjust and remove all common orthopedic devices using standard practice as a guide.
Posses knowledge of theory of skin or skeletal traction.
Knowledge of the proper application of aseptic techniques in dressing changes, removal of sutures or staples and in the set up of sterile fields.
Differentiate sterilization materials and techniques required for specific instruments or procedures.
Display dexterity in the use of required instrumentation and equipment.
Requires current BLS certification - American Heart Association
Current Certification as an Orthopedic Technician by the National Board of Certification of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) or registered orthopedic technician by the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (CASOP)
