Providence is calling a Senior Surgery Scheduler (Full-Time/Day-shift) to Providence Medical Institute in Tarzana, CA.

We are seeking a Senior Surgery Scheduler - this position schedules patients for surgery in inpatient and outpatient settings. Under minimal supervision, coordinates and schedules appointments for preoperative and postoperative office visits and testing.
Performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the Sisters of Providence mission, philosophy and values.
In this position you will:
Service Commitment: Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information

Environment of Care/Infection Control/Safety: Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities. Consistently uses personal protective equipment as required and takes appropriate precautions whenever there is potential for contact with blood, body fluids, chemicals and/or other hazardous materials. Maintains knowledge of work-appropriate aspects of environment of care programs, complies with policies and reports unsafe conditions. Successfully completes Environment of Care Healthstream modules in the required timeframes and participates in fire drills and emergency exercises
Confidentiality/Privacy: Protect confidential/private information related to patients, caregivers, providers and others

Independently coordinate and schedule surgeries, preoperative and postoperative appointments as designated by provider
Interact with patients, providers and other caregivers within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information
Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet provider and facility requirements
Coordinate arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment and surgical materials
Provide patients with generic preoperative information sheets and advise patients of preoperative surgical and financial requirements
Submit patient clinical and financial information to facility assuring appropriate medical records release, if needed
Obtain accurate information from patients and ensure all registration forms are complete
Collect patient pre-payment, as directed
Handle unusual patient questions or assists team members in resolving unfamiliar issues or complicated requests
Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner
May obtain authorizations for surgery
Demonstrate courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families; assures that information given to patients is accurate and complete
Able to train other caregivers on surgery scheduling functions, as requested
May assist with process improvement initiatives or special projects.
Ensure efficient written and oral communication.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
5 years of healthcare experience
2 years of scheduling experience in medical office, ambulatory surgery center or outpatient hospital setting
Typing 40-50 wpm and computer skills
Excellent customer service and communication skills; ability to effectively interact with public and co-workers; working knowledge of medical insurance HMO/PPO/EPO/Indemnity/Worker’s Comp, etc
Working knowledge of computerized registration (preferably EPIC)
Good written and verbal skills
Working knowledge of clinic policies and procedures
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices
Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type, review and edit reports, documentation and correspondence
Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately
Skill in handling paperwork/filing adequately
Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately
Sill in written and verbal communication
Skill in gathering, interpreting and reporting insurance information
Skill in troubleshooting insurance issues and resolving appropriately
Ability to type 40-50 works per minute. Ability to learn and use electronic medical record software and computers programs including Microsoft Office products, email, and Internet
Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other caregivers
Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems
Ability to interpret and understand insurance benefits and reimbursemen
Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively
Ability to communicate clearly
Ability to work with little supervision
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, caregivers, and the public
