Providence Registration Associate in Tarzana, California

Description:

Providence is calling a Registration Associate (Per diem/Variable shift) to Providence Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.

We are seeking a Registration Associate who will register patients, conduct patient/guarantor interviews, explain hospital policies, financial responsibilities, and patient bill of rights, and handle all routine patient inquiries related to the registration process. He or she will ensure all necessary demographic and financial data is obtained and accurately documented into the ADT system, identify appropriate payor source for routing of revenue generated during the patient stay, and ensure that any pre-certification and/or authorization is obtained to meet individual payor payment authorization protocols.

In this position you will:

  • SERVICE:

  • Promote patient, physician, customer and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect

  • Support and participate in activities that foster customer service

  • Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate

  • PEOPLE:

  • Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education.

  • Attend and successfully complete general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements

  • Participate actively in department staff meetings

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications

  • Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations Infant, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric

  • Register patients following department policy/procedure, with emphasis on accuracy of demographic/financial information, thus ensuring appropriate revenue routing

  • Enter the required data in the ADT/FUS system

  • Validate existing data related to prior registrations, and updating the patient account in the ADT/FUS system

  • Identify appropriate payor source (plan ID, Financial Class), and enters the information into the ADT/FUS system

  • Ensure all treatment authorizations/verifications have been obtained in accordance with payor's protocol and departmental policy

  • Obtain and copy all necessary insurance cards, doctors orders, prescriptions and Medicare Compliance Forms

  • Obtain patient signatures on Conditions of Service, Advance Directive, Medicare Screening Form, create armband, charge plate, and other documents as necessary

  • Identify Medicare and Medi-Cal patients through Electronic Eligibility System and verifies eligibility on all other payors through the Passport verification system

  • Collect patient co-pays and deductibles as well as estimated co-insurance (if applicable), and documents payment method in the ADT/FUS system

  • Distribute face sheets to other departments as well as breaks down the patient chart/packets for distribution to other departments

  • Respect the patients right to privacy and confidentiality, as mandated by the Patients Bill of Rights

  • Operate a team with co-workers and other departments by approaching work relationships in a manner which avoids antagonism and reduces conflict

  • Notify Supervisor of any demographic/financial issues that may effect reimbursement prior to the patient receiving service

  • Ensure "EMTALA" Rules and regulations are strictly adhered to when registering patients through the Emergency Department

  • Ensure that all Emergency Room patients are logged in and time recorded, on BOTH the on-line system as well as the Manual log

  • Understand the Patient valuables Policy/Procedure when admitting patients, and the location of the department safes

  • Obtain proper room assignment according to the patient type and diagnosis from the Nursing Supervisor

  • Demonstrate ability to interface appropriately with all age groups and is responsive to their needs

  • Enhance Professional growth through participation in educational and inservice meetings as required

  • Attend Monthly Departmental Staff meetings as required

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Some College

  • Certified Patient Account Tech certification

  • 2 years experience in a hospital, similar medical setting, or physicians office

  • Registration experience and insurance verifications
