Providence Health & Services Phlebotomist in Tarzana, California
Providence is calling a Phlebotomist (Per diem/Variable shift) to Providence Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.
We are seeking a Phlebotomist who will report to the Phlebotomy Coordinator who reports to the Laboratory Manager. This position is responsible for obtaining samples from patients, transports them to the Laboratory and prepares them for testing.
In this position you will:
Promote patient, physician, customer and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect
Support and participate in activities that foster customer service
Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate.
Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education
Attend and successfully complete general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements
Participate actively in department staff meetings
Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications
Demonstrate knowledge and performs work that is consistent with established age-specific policies and procedures, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, or activities that place patients at risk, specimen collection, processing and selection of appropriate equipment in all phases of testing. Communicate pertinent age-specific information to all clients when needed. Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations: Infant, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric
Collect specimens and take them to the laboratory for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens appropriate for their priority and stability. Follow established labeling policies and procedures
Centrifuge, transfer, stabilize and distribute specimens to appropriate workstations. Pass on hazards and priority information to team members
Perform all appropriate computer-related functions such as ordering, logging in and inquiry
Respond to inquiries regarding patient results, inquiry results, test orders, pending tests, etc. Maintains data flow for referred tests
Provide assistance, guidance and direction to customers. Call for an escort when necessary
Collate, sort and chart reports and forward them to their appropriate destinations.
Coordinate, route and process specimens to appropriate area of the laboratory, including all referral laboratory tests.
Meet established goals for ER service, Turn-Around-Times, early morning and Pre-OP draws to ensure the needs of the physicians and other hospital clients are met
Meet established goals for Performance and Customer Service
Demonstrate willingness and ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary
Required qualifications for this position include:
Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement
California Phlebotomy Certificate
Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire
Practical experience with adults, pediatrics and neonatal phlebotomyAbility to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
