Providence Manager, Laboratory Clinical Operations in Tarzana, California
Providence is calling a Manager, Laboratory Clinical Operations (Full-Time/Day Shift) to Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center in Tarzana, CA.
We are seeking a Manager Laboratory Clinical Operations who will be responsible for overall organization, financial/budgetary, planning, personnel and management of the core laboratory. This individual is responsible for clinical, technical, administrative, regulatory, and financial management and improvement of core laboratory programs to ensure effectiveness, quality and efficiency. This individual is accountable and responsible for the overall core laboratory operations to include but not limited to setting objectives, planning, staffing, and managing activities of assigned departments/areas of responsibility including laboratory, anatomic pathology, and transfusion services. The manager ensure professional and customer focused core laboratory services to meet the needs of customers in accordance with accepted standards and practices as well as develop operational infrastructure and implements processes to support new business opportunities and technologies. The Manager is an expert on laboratory testing, processes and procedures and regulations. This individual develop metrics to monitor and measure key service and quality indicators. The manager will perform all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Providence Health System mission and philosophy. Report to the Director, Laboratory Operations and Business Development.
In this position you will:
Ensure core laboratory is compliant with regulatory agencies, e.g. CLIA, JCAHO, CAP, DHS, FDA, AABB, and OSHA, as well as system laboratory compliance plan.
Select, evaluate performance timely, and make recommendations for personnel actions. Revise job descriptions as needed. Is responsible for and assure staff orientation and competency. Hold direct reports accountable. Develop ongoing employee retention strategies. Conduct regular staff or team meetings.
Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures, objectives, competency program, quality management program, employee/patient safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Prepare work schedules and priorities, assign personnel, and resolve problems relating to day-to-day operations to meet program objectives and customer needs. Project the number, type, and use of personnel for current and future needs for the department within budget guidelines.
Can assume administrative duties for laboratory in the absence of the Administrative Director of the Laboratory.
Collaborate with laboratory (medical) director, section pathologists and section specialists/supervisors to develop, recommend, implement and maintain departmental policies, procedures and programs to ensure departmental effectiveness, quality, operational excellence, and patient safety, as well as meeting environmental and infection control standards.
Facilitate, support, and model team decisions, expand and coach teamwork. Anticipate and influence change using leadership principles. Build trust and inspires teamwork. Influence others to use their talents to achieve a common goal. Integrate the function of the laboratory sections with each other through task delegation, development of lines of communications, accountability and organization of work schedules.
Develop and manage reporting departments’ operating and capital budgets and allocation of funds based upon reviews of department estimates/ recommendations. Review department labor and monthly management reports; identify opportunities for improvement; prepare variance, financial, and/or statistical reports; and develop and ensure execution of corrective action plans. Develop and monitor performance metrics.
Maintain departmental reports and records. Collect and compile data for and prepare regularly scheduled or special reports, analyse, statements for administrative and regulatory purposes, e.g. Department Dashboards, NPSG, etc.
Determine laboratory costs using budget work sheets, expense and income sheets, and projected equipment needs as pertains to reporting sections.
Identify patient/client needs and develops quality programs to meet those needs. Ensure delivery of quality, safe services for all patients within reporting areas. Develop and monitor operational excellences performance metrics. Assess day-to-day activities to ensure continuous improvement.
Perform surveys and comparative analyses of work units; participate in research activities and investigate new products, equipment, techniques, and methodologies; introduce, demonstrate, and recommend as appropriate. Develop proformas, feasibility studies, proposals, project plans and performance metrics to assess, implement and monitor performance of new technology/test implementation and business opportunities/strategies.
Oversee the purchasing/requisitioning of laboratory section supplies and equipment. Ensure an adequate stock of supplies as well as the care and maintenance of department equipment. Regularly review department section contracts, pricing agreements, and vendor contracts.
Communicate regularly with pathologists and Administrative Director of the Laboratory as to the progress toward laboratory goals and objectives. Communicate with members of the health care team concerning patient testing, diagnosis, specimen requirements, results or related information. Uses critical thinking skill to resolve problems. Regularly meet with section pathologists, section supervisors/clinical specialists and staff.
Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of health care.
Participate in medical center/medical staff committee meetings as appropriate/required. Participate on committees as directed.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or any Clinical Science
Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license
Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
5 years Sufficient practice and experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in all areas of the laboratory
5 years of Laboratory management experience
Current LA City Fire Card within 30 days of hire
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Master's Degree in Health Care Management or equivalent educ/experience
