We are seeking a Instrument Technician I who will provide ancillary and support services to the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Ambulatory Care Center. Provide patient transport to the following age group: Pediatrics to older adults.

In this position you will:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of instrument and equipment processing including decontamination, tray assembly and preparation, sterilization, storage and distribution

  • Check condition and performance of all instruments and equipment. Reports equipment malfunction to Clinical Supervisor/Director and/or Product Manager prior to end of shift

  • Check out-dated trays and supplies in sterile supply cabinet and completes processing appropriately

  • Check and maintain washer/sterilizer equipment. Log data print out daily

  • Provide patient transportation throughout surgical department:

  • Assist with transfer of patient from surgical table to gurney or bed at end of procedure

  • Assist the nurse and Anesthesiologist with transporting patient to PACU

  • Delivery of surgical specimens to appropriate department, as directed, verifying correct patient information present

  • Maintain current knowledge of sterilization equipment and techniques. Practices universal precautions, infection control procedures and good body mechanics

  • Serve as an additional resource person in the provision of patient care as procedures require the need for additional support/positioning personnel

  • Maintain a neat and safe work environment

  • Assist with training of new personnel

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information


  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the Hospital Information System.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement

  • Current BCLS certification

  • Able to read, write, and comprehend basic knowledge of medical terminology

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative (service-oriented) working relationship with patients, families, visitors, hospital staff and co-workers

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year Hospital or clinical experience in Operating Room or Central Services
