We are seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner who will provide respiratory therapy to patient's as ordered by physicians according to established standards and practices. Demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to age-specific patient population (e.g., infants, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, pediatrics), and participates in related continuing education.

In this position you will:

  • Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations: Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric

  • Diagnostic activities include but are not limited to:

  • Obtaining and analyzing physiological specimens

  • Interpreting physiological data

  • Performing tests and studies of the cardiopulmonary system

  • Therapy includes but is not limited to application and monitoring of:

  • Medical gases and environmental control systems

  • Mechanical ventilatory support

  • Artificial airway care

  • Bronchopulmonary hygiene

  • Pharmacological agents

  • Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation

  • Hemodynamic cardiovascular support

  • Demonstrate the diagnostic and therapeutic use of the following:

  • Medical gases and administration apparatus

  • Environmental control systems

  • Humidification

  • Aerosols

  • Medications

  • Ventilatory support

  • Bronchopulmonary percussion and drainage

  • Pulmonary rehabilitation

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

  • Airway management

  • Specific testing techniques are employed in respiratory care to assist in diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, and research of cardiopulmonary pathology. This shall be understood to include measurements:

  • Ventilatory volumes

  • Airway pressures

  • Gas flows

  • Blood gas analysis

  • Other related physiologic monitoring

  • Collect and document essential data utilizing patient record, patient interview, physical assessment and lab values and therapy on appropriate forms and/or in computerized patient record

  • Initiate and maintain continuous mechanical ventilatory support utilizing essential data previously gathered

  • Recommends ventilator strategies to help improve patient’s ventilatory status

  • May perform the following procedures; assist in endotracheal intubation, bronchoscopy and tracheostomy, position and secure endotracheal tubes, withdraw and analyze blood samples and suctioning airways

  • Assume responsibility for the prompt and/or routine execution of physicians’ orders relating to respiratory care

  • Initiate and maintain continuous pulse oximetry, capnography and oxygen therapy

  • Administer medication to the respiratory tract, including: bronchodilators, decongestants, wetting agents, mucoidal emulsifying agents, steroids, antibiotics, surfactant and any other FDA approved drug for such application.

  • Initiates and maintains intermittent and continuous nebulized medication and humidity therapy

  • Perform, document and report basic bedside pulmonary screening noting patient effort, position and any other relevant information

  • Accurately document and transfer completed patient care to the department billing system in a timely manner

  • Clean, replace and replenish necessary equipment and supplies in any and all areas assigned during the shift, reporting the need to reorder supplies and/or equipment to manager, supervisor or team leader

  • Accept accountability as lead therapist when requested

  • Demonstrate willingness & ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary

  • Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, infection control, and patient/customer safety standards

  • Promote patient, physician, customer and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect

  • Support and participate in activities that foster customer service

  • Communicate and follow the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate

  • Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education

  • Attend and successfully complete general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements

  • Participate actively in department staff meetings

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications

  • Comply with the Medical Center’s policies and procedures regarding:

  • Payroll timekeeping

  • Dress code

  • Attendance

  • Punctuality

  • The Code of Conduct

  • Compliance to appropriate regulatory standards

  • Compliance with department policies and procedures

  • Use of Standard Precautions in all patient contact as applicable

  • The provision of a safe environment for patients, visitors and co-workers

  • Reporting and responding to facility emergencies such as fire, infant abduction, and disruption in utilities and hazardous materials spills

  • Reporting suspected abuse or neglect

  • Demonstrate skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special applications

  • Ensure that the rights of all patients are respected and maintained by allowing for privacy, cultural diversity and dignity in the provision of care

  • Demonstrate a positive professional image, perform responsibilities in a professional manner, demonstrates flexibility in the provision of patient care/service and utilize a collaborative approach with co-workers

  • Function as a team member, contributing to the smooth operations of the unit on a day to day basis, and for the patient’s and customers overall general welfare

  • Demonstrate willingness to perform tasks generally designated to be done by others, when the need arises

  • Demonstrate organizational skills including prioritization and time management

  • Utilize appropriate resources when indicated to resolve conflicts, solve problems and achieve goals

  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve care or service

  • Establish yearly goals that will enhance personal job performance

  • Seek and utilize new approaches to problem solving, reaching goals and/or new programs

  • Ensure human and material resources of the organization are used responsibly and in accordance with hospital policy

  • Identify cost saving strategies appropriate to the department

  • Other duties as assigned


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate of a program for Respiratory Therapy

  • RRT required for all Respiratory Therapist applicants hired on or after 1/1/15

  • Note, Respiratory Therapists credentialed prior to 1/1/15 are grandfathered as CRTs

  • Licensed in Respiratory Care in the State of California

  • Current BLS-HCP – Basic Life Support - for Healthcare Providers American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer accepted on hire until card expiration date

  • PALS within 6 months of hire

  • ACLS within 6 months of hire

  • Current LA City Fire Card within 90 days of hire

  • Good verbal and communication skills

  • Knowledge of tests, therapeutics, disease processes and medical terminology

  • 6 months Work experience
