We are seeking a Operational Engineer who will operate &/or maintain stationary engines, boilers, or other mechanical equipment to provide utilities for buildings or industrial processes. Operate equipment, such as steam fed heat exchangers, generators, motors, pumps, and steam boilers. Operates and maintains medical equipment (such as Vacuum Pumps and Medical Air Compressors), HVAC systems and other auxiliary equipment necessary to support operations of the hospital with uninterrupted services.
In this position you will:
Implement and maintains established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, safety, environmental, and infection control policies.
Maintain professional growth and development.
Participate in educational programs and in-service training meetings.
Operates, cleans, repairs and maintains all major central plant equipment and equipment spaces, including central plant outdoor areas.
Safely and efficiently will monitor, maintain and adjust natural gas boilers, emergency power electric generators, medical air compressors, industrial air compressors, medical vacuum pumps, chemical pumps, HVAC and other related plant equipment, instruments and controls as required to meet steam and electric production requirements.
Maintains, repair and replaces steam systems piping, steam traps, regulators, strainers, valves and condensate pumps to ensure efficiency and uninterrupted steam services to Medical Center.
Operate chilled water plant to meet the year round chilled water requirements for Providence Holy Cross facilities and to provide maximum efficiency and minimize electric utility expense.
Monitor and maintains underground fuel storage tanks (UST’s) and leak monitoring equipment including scheduling of fuel deliveries, monitoring alarms, daily equipment checks and coordinating vendor work necessary to maintain systems in full operating condition per original design conditions.
Lubricate clean and overhauls all systems pump equipment, valves and piping.
Perform annual maintenance on boilers and other equipment in the Central Plant and coordinates services with equipment vendors for regulatory required testing, maintenance and repairs.
Ensure accuracy of all central plant planned maintenance, service, testing reports and compliance documentation related to AQMD, The Joint Commission, Department of Public Health, LAFD, county and city offices and other authorities having jurisdiction, to ensure accuracy of documentation based on code requirements and Joint Commission standards.
Ensure accuracy of and assists in developing and maintaining department records and reports, and collecting compliance related as well as statistical data.
Observe and interprets readings on gauges, meters and charts registering various aspects of boilers, chillers and electric generating plants operation to ensure that this equipment and associated equipment are operating properly.
Perform periodic inspections of mechanical rooms that are within the 10 minute L.A. City Rule for high pressure boiler operators to ensure proper operation of heating, air conditioning and ventilation, and medical support equipment.
Monitor, tests and performs chemical treatment of all Central Plant, Medical Center and Medical Office Buildings equipment including boilers, chillers, cooling towers and closed loop systems ensuring accurate and acceptable residual levels in all water systems.
Troubleshoot and repairs electrical equipment using electrical schematics, blueprints and meters necessary to read volts, amps and ohms.
Keeps work areas orderly, clean and safe. Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.
Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Provide suggestions to management to improve overall quality and day-to-day operations.
Attend all meetings as well as department meetings, as required.
Must be willing to work any shift as needed, which could include weekends.
Required qualifications for this position include:
5 years Power plant experience, preferably hospital.
Must be proficient in mechanical, electrical, electronic and analytical skills, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.
Must have knowledge of codes related to all central plant equipment, such as equipment with refrigerant loss regulations, boiler emissions regulations, generator emissions and NFPA regulations, etc.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be proficient with computerized systems and be able to operate computers due to the increased automation of mechanical systems making computer skills essential for this position.
Stationary engineers must continually learn new skills to keep up with technical advances.
Current L.A. City Unlimited Horsepower Steam Engineer’s License.
Current California Driver’s License.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
